GBA Day 2 – Odds & Ends

So today, after my 2 talks on Reformed Theology from a Systematic Perspective (Five Points of Calvinism and Ordo Salutis), I’m currently in a 2 hour break before preaching for Grace Community Church’s Wednesday night service. Here are a few of my random thoughts (accompanied by pics) from the last few days. LECTURING I love it!!! Those of you who’ve been part of my…

GBA – Day 1

TIMETABLE for GBA. I arrived in Kolkata at 10:30pm local. That’s 3am Sydney time, so I was a bit tired. I managed to get some sleep on the plane stretched out across my row of seats as I was able to block them off. Nonetheless, after a day of travel, I was looking forward to a proper sleep. The airport was a totally new building and not the one I remembered from 10 years…

In Changi

So here’s the next photo of me in an airport lounge…this time at T2 at Changi. And I’m enjoying dessert of sorts… Actually, I had several hours to kill in transit, so I decided to head out and grab a bite to eat. And I had my heart set on crab! I recently heard about a local place that even the locals line up to eat at – Eng Seng Restaurant. Their signature dish is…

Take Off

My lectures are finalised, my bags all packed, I’ve checked in, got through immigration, had my breakfast, and am now sitting back awaiting my flight out to Kolkata via Singapore. Looking forward to the week ahead, but also mindful that it will be a very tiring week. Again, your prayers would be very much appreciated. As I look forward to the week ahead, I’m planning to…

Reflections on True Rest

In preparation for the sermon tomorrow on Hebrews 4:1-16, here are some quotes on rest. The peace of God will keep us from sinning under our troubles and from sinking under them. – Matthew Henry Nothing gives rest but the sincere search for truth. – Blaise Pascal He who cannot rest cannot work; he who cannot let go cannot hold on; he who cannot find footing…

Suggested Commentaries on Numbers?

At church, we’re a month into the new sermon series through the Epistle to the Hebrews. And while there’s always changes that take place, I envisage finishing the series by the end of this year (or early 2015), and the next book we’ll be examining together at church is the Book of Numbers. I’ll be starting my prelim reading and study through the book once I get back from…

Lecturing @ Grace Bible Academy, Kolkata

At the invitation of Pastor Roy, I’ll be in Kolkata from Monday, 25 August to Friday, 29 August to lecture at Grace Bible Academy, which is a Bible College preparing local Indian pastors for ministry. I’ve known Pastor Roy for about 10 years, although we haven’t been able to meet face to face all that often. Since last year, our church has officially been supporting his…

Reflections on the Deity & Humanity of Christ

Tomorrow’s sermon is from Hebrews 2:5-18. Here are some quotes for reflection… If Jesus Christ is not true God, how could He help us? If He is not true man, how could He help us? – Dietrich Bonhoeffer The Saviour of sinners knows what it is to be poor. – J.C. Ryle In becoming man Christ…
